➡️↩️[ DUT ]⬅️ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐒-𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬?

1️⃣ Scattering or shortly 𝐒-𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 are defined as the ratio of the outgoing wave to the incoming wave at a port of a network.

2️⃣ 𝐒-𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 are typically measured using a network analyzer (VNA).

3️⃣ There are two main types of 𝐒-𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬:

𝗥𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘀 (𝗦𝟭𝟭): This parameter describes the ratio of the reflected wave to the incident wave at port 1. 𝑨 𝒉𝒊𝒈𝒉 𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒏 𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒔 (or loss at return) 𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒆𝒍𝒍-𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒊𝒏𝒑𝒖𝒕 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒆𝒅𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆.

𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒔 (𝗦𝟮𝟭): This parameter describes the ratio of the transmitted wave to the incident wave at port 1. 𝑨 𝒉𝒊𝒈𝒉 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒔 (or loss at insertion) 𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒆𝒇𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒍𝒚 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒇𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒑𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕 1 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕 2.
